Privacy Policy
For the Dots application · effective August 19, 2026
In short: Dots works on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere until you switch on a feature that needs it — signing in, sharing with friends, the step journey or the voice assistant. There is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking in the app, and we never sell personal data.
Who we are
Dots is made and operated by Nuvqetra LLC, a limited liability company registered in the State of Wyoming, United States, 30 N Gould St, Ste N, Sheridan, WY 82801. For anything in this policy, write to sergei.iankovskii@nuvqetra.com. We are the data controller for the personal data described here.
What stays on your device
By default the app keeps everything locally: your tasks, lists and habits, your completion history, schedules, days off, timers, goals, day notes and photos, your date of birth, your step history and every setting. Widgets read this same local data through a shared app container on your device. If you never sign in and never open the features listed below, none of it leaves your phone, and we cannot see it.
What leaves the device, and when
1. Signing in and synchronising your own devices
Signing in is optional and exists so your data can move between your own devices. We offer sign-in with Google; from it we receive your account identifier and email address. We never receive your Google password.
Once signed in, the app uploads a private copy of your data so it can be restored and kept in step across your devices: tasks, lists and subtasks, completion history, days off, goals, timers and timer sessions, day notes together with any photos attached to them, your written notes and their folders, and your profile including your avatar. This copy is private to your account. It is not visible to other users, and we do not read it.
2. Sharing with friends
Sharing is off unless you turn it on. When you add a friend, or make an item public, the following becomes visible to the people you have added:
- your profile card — display name, username, your nine-digit friend code and your avatar;
- day cards and tasks you have explicitly marked as public, including their photos and the time you completed something;
- goals you have marked as visible to friends;
- your step totals, if you enable that.
Anything marked private is never uploaded to the sharing channel at all. Items you have not marked public are excluded before the request leaves your device.
3. Steps and Apple Health
The walking journey uses your step count. With your permission the app reads step data from Apple Health and, on the current day, from the device motion sensor so the count updates without delay. Dots never writes anything back to Apple Health and reads no other health category.
If you are signed in, daily step totals are sent to our server so that the journey stays consistent across your devices and, when you have enabled it, so friends can see your totals. If you are not signed in, step data stays on the device and the journey still works.
4. The voice assistant
The assistant records only while you are using it — you start and stop it yourself. When you do:
- the recording is sent through our server to OpenAI for transcription;
- the transcribed request is sent to OpenAI together with a short index of your task titles, so the assistant can act on the right task. This index contains titles and basic flags, not your notes or photos;
- while you speak, a live preview is produced by Apple’s speech recognition. The app requests on-device recognition wherever the device supports it; on devices that do not, Apple may process the audio on its servers under Apple’s own privacy policy.
Under OpenAI’s API terms, content sent through the API is not used to train their models. We do not keep your recordings, and we do not build a profile from what you say.
To enforce free and paid usage limits, our server keeps a per-day count of assistant requests and tokens for your account, and a short-lived record of each voice request. So that this works before you have ever signed in, the app creates an anonymous account identifier the first time you use the assistant. It is stored on your device and is not linked to your identity.
5. Illustrations for the walking journey
Landmark artwork is downloaded from our public storage as you unlock places. This needs no account and sends none of your data, but as with any web request our hosting provider records standard technical information such as your IP address.
6. Purchases
Paid features are sold through the Apple App Store. Apple processes the payment and tells the app only whether the purchase is active. We never receive or store your card details, billing address or Apple Account.
What we never do
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics, crash-reporting or attribution SDKs of any kind.
- No tracking across apps or websites, and nothing shared with data brokers.
- No selling of personal data, and no sharing it for anyone else’s marketing.
- No profiling or automated decisions that have legal effects on you.
Who processes data for us
| Supabase | Hosting, database, file storage and sign-in for the features above. |
|---|---|
| OpenAI | Speech transcription and the language model behind the assistant. Used only when you use the assistant. |
| Apple | App Store purchases, Apple Health access, push and speech recognition, under Apple’s own terms. |
| Sign-in only, and only if you choose that method. |
Our servers and stored files are located in the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, the data described above is transferred there.
Permissions the app asks for
| Apple Health | To read your step count for the walking journey. Read-only. |
|---|---|
| Motion & Fitness | To update today’s step count without waiting for Health to sync. |
| Microphone | To record your request to the assistant, only while it is active. |
| Speech recognition | To show what you are saying as you say it. |
| Photos | To attach a photo to a day card, and to save a generated wallpaper. We do not read your library. |
| Camera | To take a photo for a day card directly from the app. |
| Notifications | For reminders you have set. These are local notifications, created and delivered on your device. |
Every one of these can be refused, and the rest of the app continues to work without it.
How long we keep things
Data you have synchronised is kept for as long as your account exists, because its purpose is to still be there when you install the app again. Usage counters for the assistant are kept only as long as they are needed to apply limits and prevent abuse. Data that never left your device is removed when you delete the app.
Deleting your account and data
The app has a Delete account option in the profile, under Account. It removes your account, the files stored for it and the records attached to it from our servers. The deletion is permanent, and we cannot restore the data afterwards.
You can also write to sergei.iankovskii@nuvqetra.com from the address associated with the account and we will do it for you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, to receive a copy in a portable form, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Write to us and we will act on your request; we do not charge for this and we will not treat you differently for asking.
Children
Dots is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, write to us and we will delete it.
Security
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Access to stored data is restricted to your own account by database-level rules, and files are stored under a path private to your account. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we collect to the minimum a feature actually needs, which is the most reliable protection there is.
Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and change the effective date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced inside the app.
